Markets off day lows; Nifty around 8,370

HDFC twins, TCS and Bharti Airtel among the top losers

Markets recovered from day lows as strength in Infosys, L&T and Sun Pharma managed to cap losses in HDFC twins, TCS and Bharti Airtel. At 1045 hrs, the Sensex was down 18 points at 27,994 and the Nifty was down 13 points at 8,370.

However, the broader markets gave off their morning gains and turned flat with a positive bias. The midcap index was up 0.2% while the smallcap index was near yesterday's close.

Realty index down 1.4% along with Oil and Gas, Metal and Bankex indices dipped 0.3-0.5%.

Among the ones in green, Consumer Durables gained 1.5% along with Health Care and Capital Goods indices up 0.5-0.6%.

Shares of capital goods companies gained after the production of capital goods increased 11.6% in September, against a decline of 6.6% a year ago and 9.7% in August this year, as per the Industrial Production data which was released yesterday.

Larsen and Toubro (L&T), Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), ABB India, Thermax, Alstom T&D India, Alstom India and Siemens were up 1-3% on the BSE.

The other gainers among Sensex-30 were Cipla, Sun Pharma, Infosys, Wipro, Maruti, L&T and Tata Steel up 0.5-2%.

Among the ones in red were Dr Reddys, Bharti Airtel, HDFC, M&M, SBI and Tata Power down 0.5-1.2%.

The market breadth was negative on BSE owing to weakness in broader markets. 1,195 stocks declined while 1,132 stocks advanced.
