After a good run for more than a week, the Sensex has opened flat. The Nifty is down 11 points at 5,849 and the Sensex has opened at 19,490 down 11 points. In the broader markets, the smallcap index opened at 10,196 and the midcap index at 8,074, up 0.1% each.
The Asian markets too opened in the red today.Hang Seng has dropped 75 points to 21,650. Nikkei, however, is up 28 points at 9,544. However, the Wall Street closed with gains after jittery trade and weaker-than-hoped-for manufacturing data dampened recent optimism over the recovery of the US economy. The Dow Jones was up 46 points or 0.44% to 10,573 at closing trade,the tech-rich Nasdaq composite index was up 11 points or 0.50 % to 2,301.
Among the sectoral indices on the BSE, FMCG leads up 0.7% followed by Health Care, Capital Goods and PSU.On the other hand, Metal, Auto,Realty, Teck and IT has opened in the red.The movers in the FMCG space are Ruchi Soya up 3%, United Spirits gaining nearly 2%,Godrej Consstructions and Dabur India adding 1%.
The gainers on the Sensex in the opening trades are SBI,Hero Honda,Tata Power, Cipla and Hindustan Unilever up 1% each.
The losers are Infosys,TCS,Mahindra & Mahindra down 1% followed by HDFC Bank, DLF,Sterlite and BHEL shedding 0.4%-0.7%.
The market breadth is marginally positive. Of the total 1832 stocks traded on the BSE, 997 have advanced while 749 have declined.
