Taking cues from the international market, the Sensex has opened flat at 20117 while Nifty too is flat at 6033.In the broader markets, the smallcap index started at 10,300, up 0.4% and the midcap index opened at 8,158, gaining 0.3%. The benchmark index is underforminfg at 0.1%
Overseas US stocks slipped as investors took a break from a four-week rally, but they remained optimistic the advance would resume as a flurry of deals suggested companies were seeing value in the market. On the other hand, the Asian indices opened mixed with Hang Seng quoting at 22,331, weaker by 9 points or 0.04% and the Nikkei opened at 9,529, lower by 73 points or 0.7%.
On the sectoral indices, Capital Goods, up 0.5% leads the pack followed by Auto, Power and PSU. Teck and IT has opened in the red at 0.1% and 0.2% respectively.
Reliance Communications up 2% is the top gainer on the Sensex followed by Mahindra & Mahindra, Jindal Steel gaining 1%, Hero Honda, Wipro and Jaiprakash Associates adding 0.8% each.
On the losers side are Sterlite, ICICI Bank down 0.8%, HDFC, Tata Motors and Hindalco shedding 0.6% each.
The market breadth is positive. Of the total 1936 stocks traded on the BSE, 1169 stocks have advanced while 669 have declined.
