Markets remain buoyant

The indices continue to trade firm this morning, mirroring the strength globally. The Sensex is quoting at 17577, higher by 67 points and the Nifty is at 5259, up 25 points.

The US markets had gained overnight, with the Dow adding 53 points and the Nasdaq strengthening by 26 points. And the Asian markets have gained around 1% across the board.

The leading gainers on the Sensex are ONGC (stronger by 3.2% at Rs 1235), Sterlite (higher by 2.4% at Rs 884) and ICICI Bank (up 1.9% at Rs 856).

Reliance Communication, Grasim and Reliance are the other major gainers.

Tata Power (weakened by 1.9% at Rs 1460) is the top Sensex loser. And the information technology stocks are down after the stellar gains post the Infosys results. TCS (lower by 1.7% at Rs 774) and Infosys (down 0.9% at Rs 2660) are in correction mode.

The market breadth is strong. Out of 2662 stocks traded on the BSE, there ar 1991 advancing stocks as against 610 declines.
