Markets remain lacklustre

After a quiet opening the markets have slipped into the red to register an intra-day low of 18,377, down 30 points from the day's opening.The Sensex is at 18,382 down 26 points and the NIfty is down 19 points  at 5,542. The midcap index is in sync with the benchmark index down 0.1% while the smallcap index is up 0.1%.On the Asian front, the Hang Seng has pared its initial points and is flat at 20,905 while the Nikkei is down 0.8% at 9,042.

All the sectoral indices on the BSE has slipped into the red except FMCG which is up 0.7%. Ruchi Soya adding nearly 2%, Nestle India and ITC gaining 1% each help the index to stay in the green.The major loser on the chart is the Realty index. Sobha Dev,Parsvnath Dev, HDIL and DLF down 1-2% are the draggers in this space. Power too is on a good run up nearly 0.1%. The propellers here are GVK Power adding 2% followed by JSW Energy and NTPC up 1% each. Teck which opened in the red has pared its initial losses and is flat now.

Reliance Communications (Rs 166) and Bharti Airtel (Rs 320) up 1% each are the major gainers on the Sensex.     ITC (Rs 160), NTPC (Rs 194) and BHEL (Rs 2513) are the other significant gainers.

DLF(Rs 324) and Hindalco (Rs 172) down 2% each are the major losers on the Sensex followed by Jaiprakash Associates (Rs 119), Jindal Steel (Rs 700) and HDFC Bank (Rs 2175).

Market breadth is negative as1308 stocks decline while 1165 stocks advance.
