Markets slide, metals weigh

Markets decline further on back of selling pressure in frontline metal stocks. The Sensex has fallen 153 points to 19,834 and the Nifty has declined 56 points to 5971.

The NSE Nifty is down seven points at 6,020.

Energy and Capital Goods shares continue to trade with positive bias, while metal languish in red.

Larsen & Toubro, NTPC and Tata Power have advanced over 1% each to Rs 2,020, Rs 207 and Rs 1,391, respectively.

Reliance, Reliance Communications and Cipla are the other prominent gainers.

On the other hand, Sterlite has shed nearly 3% at Rs 172. Tata Steel and HDFC have declined around 2% each to Rs 620 and Rs 706, respectively.

Tata Motors, Hindalco and ITC are down around 1% each.

The market breadth is marginally negative - out of 3,024 stocks traded so far, 1,634 have declined and 1,286 have advanced on the BSE.
