The markets are trading weak, with banking and auto stocks being the main culprits. The Sensex is quoting at 17848, lower by 84 points and the Nifty is at 5336,down by 25 pointts.
Tata Motors has weakened by 3% at Rs 784, while L&T has shed 2.2% at Rs 1605 and Sterlite has lost 1.9% at Rs 868. The banking sector has edged lower; ICICI Bank, SBI and HDFC have shed around one per cent each.
The FMCG space has maintained its lead among the sectoral indices and is now up almost a per cent. Sun Pharma has added 1.5% at Rs 1797, ITC has moved up by 1.2% at Rs 271 and Hero Honda has gained 1% at Rs 2078. And index heavyweight, RIL has edged up marginally at Rs 1126.
The market breadth is positive, out of 2,941 shares traded on the BSE, there are 1,535 advancing stocks as against 1,320 declines.
