It has been a very quiet session of trade. All the indices are trading around the previous day's levels; the Sensex has shed 39 points at 16982, Nifty has lost 12 points at 5098, BSE-midcap index has added three points at 6879 and BSE-smallcap index has gained seven points at 8634.
There is no significant change in the stock universe either. Hindustan Unilever, which announced plans to buy back its shares, continues to hog the limelight in the largecap space. HUL is up 1.6% at Rs 251 and ITC has gained 1.3% at Rs 288. ICICI Bank has strengthened by 1.3% at Rs 861 and ONGC has added 0.6% at Rs 1218.
Gujarat Fluorochemicals, Syndicate Bank and Television Eighteen India have added between 3% and 5% each in the mid-cap space. And the smallcap space has seen the likes of Phillips Carbon Black, Dhampur Sugar Mills and Sakthi Sugars in the thick of acton.
On the losers side, Reliance Communications (RCom) has shed 1.8% at Rs 161, Sterlite has weakened by 1.7% at Rs 639 and Bharti Airtel has lost 1.4% at Rs 269.
The market breadth is marginally positive. Out of 2328 stocks traded on the BSE, there are 1153 advancing stocks as against 1088 declines.
