The markets have held on to their gains in the past one hour. The Sensex is quoting at 17,286, higher by 97 points, and the Nifty is within kissing distance of its intermediate high, at 5,170 points.
The day's new listing, Cox & Kings is trading at a premium of around 20% at Rs 400 on the BSE, as against its issue price of Rs 330.
Metals, auto and realty stocks are seeing good gains in this morning's trades. BHEL (stronger by Rs 53 or 2.3% at Rs 2,345), Sterlite (higher by Rs 10 or 1.2% at Rs 851) and Tata Steel (up Rs 6 or 1.2% at Rs 555) are the leading gainers on the BSE. Hindalco, Reliance Infrastructure and Reliance are the other prominent gainers.
Bharti Airtel (weaker by Rs 6 or 1.7% at Rs 336) and Tata Power (lower by Rs 2 or 0.2% at Rs 1,359) were rading weak.
The market breadth was strong. Out of 2,390 stocks traded on the BSE, there were 1,553 advancing stocks as against 764 declines.
