The markets are trading strong this morning. After having reclaimed the 17k mark at the onset of trading, the Sensex is comfortably placed at 17084, higher by 163 points and the Nifty is at 5126, up 47 points. The midcap index is up 0.6% at 6913 and the smallcap index is up 0.7% at 8667. Realty, oil and auto sectors are in the limelight.
Wall Street had rallied on better than expected economic data from China and Australia and in-line to slightly better than expected weekly jobs data in the US. The Dow was up 273 points or 2.76% at 10172 and the Nasdaq was up 59 points or 2.77% at 2218.71. And the Asian markets have gained in the region of 1-2%.
M&M is now the leading gainer on the BSE, having strengthened by 2.7% at Rs 608. BHEL has added 1.8% at Rs 2373 and RIL has gained 1.7% at Rs 1033. DLF, HDFC and HDFC Bank are the other significant gainers.
On the other hand, Bharti Airtel has extended its losses and is now down 2.2% at Rs 278. RCom has shed 0.9% at Rs 172 and ONGC has lost 0.8% at Rs 1177.
The market breadth is positive. Out of 2222 stocks traded on the BSE, there are 1585 advancing stocks as against 561 declines.
