Markets sustain gains

The markets are going strong this morning and it is not just the heavyweights that are calling the shots. While the Sensex is quoting at 17706, stronger by 235 points and the Nifty is at 5314, up 73 points, the midcap index has strengthened by 80 points at 7269 and the smallcap index is up 112 points at 9289.

Sterlite continues to be the leading gainer on the BSE. The stock is trading at Rs 164, stronger by 3.1%. SBI is trading at Rs 2355, higher by 2.2% and Tata Steel is at Rs 484, up 1.8%. L&T, DLF and ICICI Bank are the other leading gainers. And index heavyweight RIL is quoting at Rs 1063, up 0.9%.

In the midcap space, Godrej has strengthened by 5.1% at Rs 176, Simplex Infra has gained 4.3% at Rs 487 and Prakash Industries has added 4.1% at Rs 182. 

And in the smallcap space, Voltamp has strengthened by 100% at Rs 1046, Shree Shree Ashtavinayak has gained 9.9% at Rs 14 and HEG has added 7.9% at Rs 358.

On the losers side, NTPC has weakened by 0.3% at Rs 200 and Hindustan Unilever has lost 0.2% at Rs 266.

The market breadth is strong. Out of 2309 stocks traded on the BSE, there are 1837 advancing stocks as against 408 declines.
