The markets have been going strong this morning. The indices have gained for the second consecutive day and are showing no signs of surrendering the momentum. All the sectoral indices are rising in tandem; The Sensex is quoting at 17834, higher by 182 points and the Nifty is at 5352, up 55 points. The midcap index is at 7332, higher by 80 points and the smallcap index is at 9310, up 75 points.
Bharti Airtel continues to top the gainers list on the BSE. The telecom major is trading at Rs 305, stronger by 8%. RCom has gained 3.1% at Rs 193 and DLF has added 2.1% at Rs 288. Jaiprakash Associates, Tata Steel and HDFC Bank are the other major gainers. And index heavyweight RIL has edged higher by 0.3% at Rs 1059.
In the midcap space, Gujarat Fluorochemicals has strengthened by 6.7% at Rs 172, Tata Teleservices has gained 6% at Rs 22 and Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services has added 5.8% at Rs 502.
And in the smallcap space, Essel Propack has soared by 8.5% at Rs 52, Hinduja Foundries has gained 8.2% at Rs 129 and Gujarat Ambuja Exports has added 7% at Rs 26.
Hindustan Unilever (weakened by 0.4% at Rs 264) and Cipla (shed 0.2% at Rs 338) are the only losers among the Sensex-50 scrips.
The market breadth is positive. Out of 2682 stocks traded on the BSE, there are 1804 advancing stocks as against 795 declines.
