Markets trade listless

After opening in the negative, the Sensex slipped further to touch a low of 18,738 in the early morning trades. However, the BSE benchmark index took off from the lows and is currently trading at 18,801 down 56 points and the Nifty lost 21 points at 5,638.

In the broader markets, both the small cap and the midcap indices are trading flat as compared to the Sensex which is down 0.4%

Among the sectoral indices, IT and Realty index down 1% each are leading the losses followed by Bankex, Metal down 0.8% each. On the other hand, Consumer Durables and FMCG are up 0.8% and 0.5% respectively.

The top Sensex gainers are Reliance Communications up 2%, Mahindra & Mahindra and ITC adding 1% each.

Among the losers are Hindalco, Infosys down 2% followed by BHEL, Maruti Suzuki, DLF and Wipro losing 1% each.

The market breadth is positive. Of the total 2293 stocks traded on the BSE, 1166 stocks have advanced while 1036 declined.
