Mentha oil prices rose by Rs 17.10, or 2.43 per cent to Rs 721.20 per kg in futures market today on increased demand at spot markets against restricted arrivals.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, June-month contract rose by Rs 17.10, or 2.43 per cent to Rs 721.20 per kg, with an open interest of 2,313 lots.

The oil for delivery in May contract also moved up by Rs 14.90, or 2.15 per cent to Rs 709.20 per kg, with a business turnover of 2,841 lots.

Marketmen said, increased demand at spot markets against restricted arrivals from Chandausi in Uttar Pradesh, a major mentha producing centre, led to an upsurge in mentha prices at futures trade.

Fresh enquiries from pharmaceutical units also supported the uptrend, they said.
