Mentha oil prices gained Rs 18.60 to Rs 1,360 per kg in futures trade today as traders created fresh positions, driven by pick-up in spot demand.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, November mentha oil gained Rs 18.60, or 1.38%, to Rs 1,360 per kg, with a business volume of 86 lots.

The September contract added Rs 18, or 1.36%, to Rs 1,338 per kg, with a trading volume of 778 lots.

Similarly, prices for October delivery rose by Rs 17.40, or 1.30%, to Rs 1,354.40 per kg, with an open interest of 484 lots.

Analysts said fresh buying by traders following pick-up in spot demand and lower arrivals from Chandausi in Uttar Pradesh mainly pushed up mentha oil futures prices.

They added that the rise in prices in the spot markets due to increasing export and pharmaceutical industries buying, pushed up the mentha prices in futures trade as well.
