Mentha oil futures prices gained by Rs 8.50 to Rs 1,362.50 per kg today as traders created fresh positions, driven by pick-up in spot demand.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, October mentha oil gained Rs 8.50, or 0.62%, to Rs 1,362.50 per kg, clocking a business volume of 1,218 lots.

The November contract traded higher by Rs 7.60, or 0.55%, to Rs 1,368 per kg, with a trading volume of 267 lots, while December delivery traded higher by Rs 6.70, or 0.49%, to Rs 1,367 per kg, with an open interest of 30 lots.

Analysts said fresh buying by traders, following pick-up in spot demand and lower arrivals from Chandausi in Uttar Pradesh mainly pushed up mentha oil prices at futures trade.

Increased buying by pharmaceutical industries also supported the firming trend for mentha oil in the spot and the futures market, they added.
