Mentha oil prices moved up by Rs 24.30 to Rs 1,243 per kg in futures trade today as traders created fresh positions, influenced by a pick-up in industrial demand.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, September mentha oil gained 24.30, or 1.99%, to Rs 1,243 per kg— with a trading volume of 746 lots -- while mentha futures for October delivery rose by Rs 20.20, or 1.64%, to Rs 1,250 per kg, with a business volume of 367 lots.

The November contract edged up by Rs 20.20, or 1.63%, to Rs 1,253.50 per kg in 149 lots.

Marketmen said a firming trend in the spot market on the back of a pick-up in demand and lower arrivals from the main producing region of Chandausi, in Uttar Pradesh, due to a fall in production, pushed up mentha oil prices in futures trade.
