The Sensex has slipped further to touch a low of 16,323 and has now recovered. The index is now at 16,369, down 125 points. The NSE Nifty is at 4,893, down 40 points.
Hindalco is the major loser on the Sensex, down 3% at Rs 152. Sterlite, HDFC, Jaiprakash Associates, Tata Steel and HDFC Bank have declined around 2% each to Rs 763, Rs 2,458, Rs 135, Rs 590 and Rs 1,593, respectively.
Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors, TCS, Larsen & Toubro and DLF have slipped over 1% each.
Hindustan Unilever on the other hand has advanced 1% to Rs 239.
The market breadth is negative, out of 2,232 shares traded, 1,119 have declined and 1,032 have advanced so far on the BSE.
Among the sectoral indices, metal, realty and IT indices have slipped 1% each.
