The BSE Mid-cap index has been an outperformer this morning. While the Sensex is up by a mere 0.2%, the mid-cap space has added nearly 1% at 7,079. The index opened at 7,035 and has touched a high of 7,080 and a low of 7,035 thus far.
The advances are outnumbering the declines by a mile. Out of 248 stocks in this space, there are 206 advancing stocks as against 37 declines. Two stocks have not seen any change in their prices and three have not been traded at all.
Essar Shipping has spurted by another 8.3% at Rs 99. Central Bank of India has soared by 6.2% at Rs 159 and Godrej Consumer Products has added 5.4% at Rs 292.Bank of Maharashtra, Indiabulls Financial Services and IRB Infrastructure Developers have added between 3% and 4% each.
The mid-cap space has added 4% in the past one week and 5% over the month. The index touched a 52-week high of 7153 on Jaunary 19 this year and a 52-week low on April 8 last year.
