Volatile markets have recovered from the day's low and is now tradng in the green. The Sensex after opening at 20,334 touched a high of 20,351. However, weakness in metal stocks dragged the index 128 points from there to a low of 20,223. The index then recovered on gains in IT stocks and is now up 50 points at 20,311.
The Nifty is up six points at 6,108.
BSE mid and small-cap indices have outperformed the broader markets. The small cap index has gained 0.8% to 10,777 while the mid-cap index has added 0.6% to 8,455.
BSE IT index is the top gainer among sectoral indices, following a better-than-expected numbers from TCS. The index is up 1.7% at 6,168. However, FMCG and metal indices are down 0.5% each.
TCS is leading the gainers list with gains of 5% at Rs 1,037. Infosys is up 1.5% at Rs 3,079. However, Wipro is dowm 3.5% at Rs 453 on a dissapointing quarterly numbers. The company saw a 9% rise in its consolidated net profit to Rs 1284.9 crore in the second quarter ending September 30 as compared to Rs 1170.7 crore reported in the corresponding period last year.
Reliance, Hero Honda and ICICI Bank have added marginally in trades.
However, ITC has dropped 1% to Rs 172. Sterlite has shed 1% at Rs 171.
HDFC, Tata Power and Jaiprakash Associates are also in the red.
