Midcap, smallcap indices outperform Sensex

The Sensex is now off day's high and is  at 17,430, up 50 points and the NSE Nifty is 17 points higher at 5,232.

The BSE mid-cap and small-cap indices continue to outperform the broader index. The mid-cap index has jumped 1% to 7,103  while the small-cap indes is up 1.2% at 9171.

Hindustan Unilever has slumped 2% to Rs 237. ITC is down 1% at Rs 267. Sun Pharma has declined 1.2% at Rs 1601.

IT stocks - TCS and Wipro have slipped 1% each to Rs 763 and Rs 683, respectively.

Meanwhile, DLF has gaine 2% at Rs 314. Jaiprakash Associates is up 1% at Rs 148.

Sterlite and Tata Steel have jumped 1.8% each to Rs 828 and Rs 636, respectively. Hindalco has added 1% to Rs 180.

ICICI Bank has advanced 1.8% to Rs 936. Auto stocks continue to gain. Maruti, Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors have advanced around 1% each.

The BSE market breadth is positive. Out of 2662 stocks traded, 1881 have advanced while 711 have declined.
