State-run MMTC today invited bids for the sale of 15,750 tonnes of imported pulses in the domestic market. The bids will close on June 23 and a decision on the tender will be taken on June 30, the company's website said
MMTC said that it would sell 7,500 tonnes of tur (pigeon peas), 4,000 tonnes of red lentils, 2,500 tonnes of moong (green gram), 1,500 tonnes of urad (black mapte) and 250 tonnes of yellow peas.
The offered pulses are sourced from Myanmar, Australia, Canada, Malawi and Tanzania. The pulses were grown during the 2008, 2009 and 2010 crop years, it said.
At present, the pulses are lying in various godowns across Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai, MMTC added.
The country is dependent on imports as the production of pulses has stagnated at 14-15 million tonnes, against the annual requirement of 17-18 million tonnes.
