State-run MMTC has invited bids for the sale of 5,000 tonnes imported pulses like tur and urad in the domestic market by month-end.

Bids will close on July 20 and the decision on the tender will be taken on July 23, the company said on its website.

MMTC said it would sell 4,000 tonnes of tur and 500 tonnes each of green moong and urad (black mapte) by this month-end. The pulses are sourced from Myanmar, Tanzania and Australia. The offered pulses are grown in the 2009 and 2010 crop year, it said.

Currently, the imported pulses are lying in godowns in Mumbai and bidders should quote for a minimum quantity of 250 tonnes, it added.

MMTC and other public trading agencies import pulses on behalf of the government to meet the domestic shortage of about 3-4 million tonnes. The country's total pulses production is somewhat around 14 million tonnes.
