Mustard seed yield is forecast to rise a marginal 2 per cent this year on favourable climatic condition with two showers in sprouting seasons followed by cold weather, the Mumbai-based The Solvent Extractors’ Association (SEA) said in its latest crop survey.
According to the survey, overall mustard seed yield during the season is estimated to be 920 kg per hectare (ha) with Gujarat and a part of Rajasthan reporting higher estimated yield this year as against 900 kg per ha last season. The survey reveals a decline of 3 per cent in the acreage to 64.36 lakh ha during 2009-10 rabi season as compared with 66.47 lakh ha in the same season last year.
The production of the favourite oilseed of north India, is forecast down by 4.5 per cent or 2.80 lakh tonnes to 5.92 million tonnes as against 6.2 million tonnes.
