The Namrup fertiliser plant of the Hindustan Fertiliser Corporation Limited (HFCL) has resumed urea production after the completion of the first phase of its revamp, paving the way for the turnaround of the state-owned company.
The revamped Namrup-III group of plants are likely to produce 3.15 lakh tonnes of urea annually with substantial improvement in energy consumption. With the anticipated completion of the second phase of revamp operation in October 2002, the urea production capacity will rise by 2.4 million tonnes to a total of over 5.5 million tonnes a year. This will be more than double the original installed capacity of the plant.
