Negative trend prevails

The markets continue to trade with a negative bias on the curcial derivatives expiry day. However, there is not much volatility in the market given the backdrop of Budget week.

The Sensex is now down 51 points at 16,205. The NSE Nifty is down

Earlier in the day, the Economic Survery pegged growth at 8.75% for FY11, and 9% for FY12.

Larsen & Toubro is the major gainer, up 1.7% at Rs 1,524. Maruti and Mahindra & Mahindra are the other notable gainers.

Hindustan Unilever has plunged over 3% to Rs 234. Tata Motors has shed 2.7% at Rs 668.

Jaiprakash Associates has slipped over 2% to Rs 129, and Sterlite has dropped nearly 2% to Rs 748.

Hero Honda has declined 1.5% to Rs 1,648. Reliance Communications, Hindalco, Reliance, Tata Steel and Grasim are the other prominent losers.
