Following the foot-steps of other Asian markets, the BSE benchmark index, the Sensex, finally conquered the 14,000-mark at close today.The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 27 points at 13,969. After advancing over the 14,000-mark in early trades, the index tumbled to a low of 13,897.Renewed buying in technology, select auto and pharma shares saw the index rebound into positive zone and bounce above the 14,000-mark. As buying gained momentum, the index rallied to a new all-time intra-day high of 14,036 - up 139 points from the day's low. The Sensex finally settled with a gain of 73 points at a record 14,015.The market breadth was positive - out of 2,700 stocks traded, 1695 advanced, 947 declined and the rest were unchanged today.Elsewhere in Asia, the Hang Seng index settled at a record 20,413, up 0.5% (103 points). Singapore's Straits Times index topped the 3,000 level for the first time, and went on to gain 1.7% (52 points) at 3038.INDEX MOVERS & SHAKERSBajaj Auto rallied nearly 4% to Rs 2,843. Ranbaxy flared up 3.5% to Rs 412, and Cipla added 2.5% to Rs 258.TCS surged over 2.5% to Rs 1,281. Infosys advanced nearly 2% to Rs 2,313. Satyam and Wipro gained nearly 1.5% each to Rs 515 and Rs 620, respectively.Bharti Airtel, Larsen & Toubro, Tata Motors, Hindalco and SBI were up around 1% each at Rs 640, Rs 1,476, Rs 939, Rs 180 and Rs 1,265, respectively.HLL shed 2% to Rs 212. ACC and Tata Steel slipped 1.5% each to Rs 1,076 and Rs 472, respectively.ITC and HDFC were down nearly 1% each to Rs 175 and Rs 1,607, respectively.VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERSUnitech topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 149 crore followed by Satyam (Rs 103.55 crore), Development Corporation Bank (DCB) (Rs 68.85 crore), HDFC (Rs 67.70 crore) and Reliance (Rs 62.55 crore).DCB led the volume chart with trades of around 1.04 crore shares followed by Pentium Infotech (87.50 lakh), Bellary Steel Alloy (81.40 lakh), IFCI (45.75 lakh) and IndusInd Bank (39.20 lakh).
