Amid pick up in demand from alloy-makers, nickel prices gained 0.70% to Rs 963.50 per kg in futures trading today.

At the MCX, nickel for delivery in July rose by Rs 6.70, or 0.70%, to Rs 963.50 per kg, with a business turnover of 235 lots.

The June contract edged up by Rs 6.40, or 0.67%, to Rs 956.20 per kg in 2,033 lots.

Analysts said increased demand from alloy-makers in the spot market helped nickel futures to trade higher but weakness in metal overseas capped the gains.

Meanwhile, nickel dropped 0.7% to $17,061 a tonne at the London Metal Exchange.
