Nickel moves up in futures trade on global cues, spot demand

Amid pick-up in demand from alloy makers, nickel prices rose by Rs 10.60 to Rs 1,072.40 per kg in futures trade today.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, nickel for August delivery rose by Rs 10.60, or 1%, to Rs 1,072.40 per kg, with a business turnover of 784 lots.

Likewise, the metal for July delivery moved up by Rs 10.50, or 1%, to Rs 1,063.50 per kg, with an open interest of 10,608 lots.

Market analysts said apart from positive trend overseas, pick-up in domestic demand from alloy-makers also influenced nickel futures prices. Meanwhile, nickel was trading $23,675 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
