The NSE index, Nifty, hogged the limelight today as the index scaled a new all-time intra-day high of 4269. The index also settled at a record level of 4261 - up 46 points.The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 60 points and displayed positive movement through the session. The index touched a high of 14,451, and finally settled with a gain of 115 points at 14,419.Banking, metal, FMCG and oil & gas where in demand today, while auto and technology stocks witnessed profit taking.The BSE Oil & Gas index soared 3% to 7835, and the Metal index surged 2.5% to 10,494. The FMCG index advanced 2% to 1911. The IT index, however, slipped over 1% to 4867.The market breadth was positive - out of 2,660 stocks traded, 1,386 advanced, 1,199 declined and 75 were unchanged today.MOVERS & SHAKERSReliance Energy zoomed 8.5% to Rs 555. Tata Steel soared 5.6% to Rs 624.Reliance surged 3.7% (Rs 63) to Rs 1,762. ONGC and HDFC Bank rallied over 2.5% each to Rs 933 and Rs 1,100, respectively.ITC advanced over 2% to Rs 171, and Maruti gained nearly 2% at Rs 823.Reliance Communications moved up 1.7% to Rs 505, and SBI added 1.5% to Rs 1,345. HDFC was up over 1% at Rs 1,720.Tata Motors dropped 2.5% to Rs 725, and Bajaj Auto slipped 1.7% to Rs 2,248. Hero Honda was down nearly 1% at Rs 680.Wipro and Satyam shed 1.7% each to Rs 535 and Rs 448, respectively. TCS and Infosys declined over 1% each to Rs 1,237 and Rs 1,961, respectively.ICICI Bank and Dr.Reddy's were down over 1% each to Rs 940 and Rs 658, respectively.MOST ACTIVE COUNTERSReliance Energy topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 732.30 crore followed by Adlabs (Rs 293 crore), Reliance Capital (Rs 177.40 crore), United Spirits (Rs 176 crore) and Reliance (Rs 172 crore).Reliance Energy also led the volume chart with trades of around 1.42 crore shares followed by Tata Teleservices (1.14 crore), Reliance Natural (1.05 crore), IFCI (79.40 lakh) and Cairn India (71.90 lakh).
