Nifty slips below 6,100; banks & auto shares drag

The broader markets are underperforming the benchmark indices- BSe Midcap and Smallcap indices are down nearly 1%

Benchmark indices have erased early gains and are trading lower weighed down by financials, auto and FMCG shares.

By 10:40, the Sensex was lower by 63 points at 20,545 mark and the Nifty slipped by 24 points at 6,089 levels.

The main losers on the Sensex at this hour include Hero Moto, Hindalco, Coal India, HDFC Bank, Tata Motors, ICICI Bank, ITC and Bajaj Auto.

The rupee is trading at 61.46/47 versus its close of 61.55/56 on Monday, boosted by gains in regional shares and currencies after resolution of the U.S. debt ceiling crisis appeared closer.

The broader markets are underperforming the benchmark indices- BSe Midcap and Smallcap indices are down nearly 1%.

The market breadth in BSE turns weak with 946 shares declining and 717 shares advancing.
