The National Multi-Commodity Exchange (NMCE) today launched a wireless application protocol (WAP) portal, offering traders services like spot and futures prices of commodities over their mobile phones.

"NMCE is pleased to announce the launch of its WAP portal for mobile phone users," a circular from the exchange said.

The portal will help various market participants to have ready information on commodity prices on a real-time basis, even while they are on the move, it said.

NMCE further said, the WAP portal would provide information related to spot and futures prices of various commodities including metals, price charts, details of active contracts, top gainers and top losers contracts traded at its exchange platform.

The turnover of NMCE has scaled up by five-folds to Rs 1,94,380 crore till February in the 2009-10 fiscal from Rs 39,625 crore in the year-ago period, the official data showed.

Commodities such as mustard seed, guarseed, sack and rubber are largely traded on the exchange.
