Mirroring weakness in the Asian markets, on fears of a possible rate hike in China, the Sensex opened with a negative gap of 133 points at 13,539, and soon tumbled to a low of 13,424 - down 248 points from the previous close.However, fresh buying in banking and select heavyweights helped the index recoup losses as the day progressed. The Sensex finally ended with a nominal loss of 52 points at 13,620. The index thus recovered 196 points from the day's low at the closing bell.Elsewhere in Asia, the Nikkei ended with a loss of 295 points at 17,372. The Hang Seng plunged 477 points to 20,300, and the Shanghai Composite index tumbled 163 points to 3449.The Mid-cap and Small-cap indices ended almost unchanged at 5652 and 6905, respectively. The BSE IT index dropped 1.5% to 4975.The market breadth was marginally negative - out of 2,593 stocks traded, 1,358 declined, 1,151 advanced and 84 were unmoved today.MOVERS & SHAKERSSBI advanced 1.7% to Rs 1,053, and ICICI Bank added nearly 1% to Rs 905.Maruti rallied 1.5% to Rs 779. ITC, Hero Honda and Grasim were up around 1% each at Rs 159, Rs 656 and Rs 2,364, respectively.ACC plunged 3.5% to Rs 788. Satyam tumbled 3% to Rs 448.Bajaj Auto, HDFC and Infosys slipped around 2% each to Rs 2,441, Rs 1,564 and Rs 2,040, respectively.NTPC, Wipro, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, ONGC and Reliance Energy were down around 1% each to Rs 160, Rs 579, Rs 505, Rs 713, Rs 895 and Rs 505, respectively.MOST ACTIVE COUNTERSDebutant Advanta topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 503.35 crore followed by Reliance (Rs 205.85 crore), ICRA (Rs 177.60 crore), SBI (Rs 94.60 crore) and Aptech (Rs 90 crore).Tata Teleservices led the volume chart with trades of around 1.22 crore shares followed by IFCI (97.82 lakh), Dish TV (81 lakh), G V Films (67.42 lakh) and Advanta (58.85 lakh).
