State governments have agreed to impose uniform and simultaneous ban on marine fisheries on the east and west coasts during summer and rainy seasons. The decision will be implemented from the current year itself.
While fishermen on the east coast will observe the fishing holiday from April 15 to May 31 every year, those on the west coast will do so from June 10 to August 15.
This move is aimed at both conservation of fish resources and ensuring safety of fishermen during the period when the sea can potentially be rough and hazardous.
The decision to this effect was taken at the conference of states
