NTPC tops the chart

Volumes in the derivatives segment shot up and the turnover on the National Stock Exchange's (NSE) futures and options was at Rs 9,378 crore on Thursday.
 
A total of 2.7 lakh contracts were traded. The total open interest position was in excess of 37 crore shares. Index futures saw a turnover of Rs 1,811 crore and open interest was close to 1.2 crore shares.
 
Stock futures recorded a turnover of Rs 6,080 crore and the open interest was in excess of 26 crore shares.
 
In the futures segment, the most actively traded contracts were those of Satyam Computer, Reliance Industries, Tata Steel, TCS and State Bank of India among others.
 
In terms of open interest, the topper was NTPC with 2.98 crore shares outstanding, Tata Steel at 2.62 crore shares, IPCL at 1.5 crore shares, RIL at 1.35 crore shares and NTPC December futures with 86.45 lakh shares outstandings.
 
In the case of Nifty futures, the open interest increased by around 2.5 lakh shares. The put-call ratio in Nifty was down to 1.21 from the previous day's level.
 
Stocks such as Union Bank and Satyam saw their open put-call ratio going up. This is an indication of bullishness in these stocks. Satyam was the most popular in both call and put options segment.
 
The Nifty November futures closed at 1,894.90, a premium to the spot closing of 1,892.05 at the end of the day.
 
On the BSE, the derivatives segment saw a turnover of Rs 230 crore, while the turnover on the weekly option was close to Rs 15 crore.
