Volumes in the derivatives segment surged on Wednesday with the turnover on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) in the segment touching Rs 11,119 crore. A total of 3.49 lakh contracts were traded. |
The total marketwide open interest position in the segment was 24.72 crore shares. NSE Index futures saw a turnover of Rs 2,852 crore with a open interest position of 1.06 crore shares, while equity futures saw a turnover of Rs 6,998 crore and outstanding open interest at more than 18 crore shares. |

The most active future contracts were those of Reliance Industries, Tata Steel, Satyam, TCS and Tata Motors among others. |

State Bank of India's outstanding open interest position was 3.24 crore shares with Tata Steel closing below 2.44 crore shares. Arvind Mills' open position at the end of the day was 93.40 lakh shares and Maruti at 81.34 lakh shares. |

In calls the most active contracts were those of Tata Steel at a strike price of 300, TCS at a strike of 1100, Satyam at a strike of 400 and RIL at strikes of 560 and 540. |

In puts, the most actively traded contracts were those of RIL at strikes of 540 and 560, Tata Steel at a strike of 290 and Satyam at strikes of 400 and 390 among others. Nifty October futures closed at 1793.10, again at a discount to the spot value closing at 1794.90. |

November futures closed at 1791.90 while December futures closed at 1792 at the end of the day's trading. |

The put-call ratio increased slightly to 0.35 with the calls at 28194 and puts at 9891. |
