Oilmeal exports rise 22% in first quarter

On the back of more than 50 per cent rise in soybean meal exports to 5,65,975 tonne from 3,71,000 tonne, oilmeal exports witnessed a robust growth of 22 per cent to 8,75,200 tonne in the first quarter of the current financial year against 7,18,275 tonne in the same period last year.
 
Oilmeal exports for the month June increased 4 per cent to 2,19,650 tonne compared with 2,11,525 tonne in the same month last year.
 
According to the Solvent Extractors' Association of India, soybean meal exports in the June 2006 quarter to Vietnam totalled 1,70,550 tonne while that to Indonesia was recorded at 86 ,925 tonne.
 
While exports to Japan stood next at 81,775 tonne, China imported 78,225 tonne and South Korea 72,750 tonne from India.
 
India's rapeseed meal exports during the April-June 2006 period stood at 2,10,725 tonne.
 
Of this South Korea shared the largest quantity at 85,525 tonne, followed by China at 55,425 tonne and Taiwan at 31,250 tonne.
 
Groundnut meal exports during the quarter were 43,100 tonne, shipped largely to China.
 
Taiwan is the main buyer of castormeal at 17,725 tonne, followed by South Korea at 16,275 tonne.
 
Rice bran extraction exports during the first quarter of the current financial year stood at 21,400 tonne, exported mainly to Vietnam.
 
Total exports through Kandla were estimated at 5,35,700 tonne "� 61 per cent of the country's total exports, while Mumbai handled 1,49,925 tonne, which is 17 per cent.
 
Again, while Bedi recorded 14 per cent of total exports at 1,18,100 tonne, Vizag with 44,875 tonne contributed 5 per cent and Kakinada handled 26,600 tonne indicating 3 per cent of total exports.`
