Oilseed area to be lower this year by 5%

Total oilseed area this kharif season is expected to be around lower by around 5 per cent due to scanty rainfall in crop growing areas.

This year, the total oilseed acreage is expected to be around 159.80 lakh hectare compared to 167.90 lakh ha last year.

Soybean production this kharif season is expected to be on the higher side, but the area under ground nut is impacted, according to G.G. Patel & Nikhil Research Company.
 
The area under soybean is higher by 4 lakh ha and the total area is expected to be around 107 lakh ha compared to 103 lakh ha last year.
 
"There have been reports of crop damage in Madhy Pradesh due to excessive rain and water logging," said G. G. Patel at Globoil.
 
On the other hand, the area under ground nut this year is expected to be lower, although the sown area by the government is 38.10 lakh ha, but the area that will be harvested is estimated to be around 35.10 lakh ha.
 
Last year, 42 lakh ha of groun nut was harvested and this year is expected to be lower by around 7.70 lakh ha.
