Onion prices in Nashik up 35%

The wholesale prices of onions in Nashik APMC have surged by 34.61 per cent to Rs 875 per quintal compared with last week's prices. In the district's retail markets, onions was sold at Rs 10-12 per kg.
 
At the APMCs at Lasalgaon, Pimpalgaon and Yeola, the prices were at Rs 711, Rs 725 and Rs 625 per quintal, respectively.
 
Despite the arrival of huge quantities of kharif onion at different APMCs in the district, the prices are expected to remain high till January 15 owing to rising demand from export as well as domestic markets.
 
The prices are in the range of Rs 700-725 per kg despite the increased arrival of onions this week.
 
Currently, onions from the district have good demand from Karachi, Colombo, Malaysia and Dubai, according to the market sources.
 
In the last four days this week ( 25 December-28 December), 2.30 lakh quintals of onions were sold at Lasalgaon, Pimpalgaon, Yeola and Nashik's APMCs.
 
1.11 lakh quintals of onions were sold at Lasalgaon APMC, 90,823 quintals at Pimpalgaon, 25,306 quintals at Yeola APMC and 2,958 quintals at Nashik APMC.
