Online Transactions In Real Estate Still A Distant Dream

Even after the crash-and-burn of the dotcom sector, there is a broad consensus over the fact that the Internet would continue to have a profound impact on the ways the business is done in the property markets.

But, what most of the market players are not sure of is to what extent will e-commerce be able to change the traditional picture, specially in a country like India where so far, only around five million people access the Net.

When Jones Lang LaSalle, CB Richard Ellis, Insignia ESG and Trammel Crow, recently, invested $10 million to jointly launch an online platform for the commercial real estate industry in the US, the natural inquest was why this initiative could not be extended to India, where all of these international property consultants have a good presence?
