Open positions rise 3.79%

With just six day's left for the maturity of the December series, the total market open position rose 3.79 per cent to all-time high of Rs 10,303 crore on Tuesday.
Of this, the open position in stock futures stood at Rs 7,537 crore, which is 73 per cent of the total open interest. The Nifty open interest is 2243 crore, which is 22 per cent of the total open interest.
Meanwhile, Nifty December futures (at 1,725.70) ended at a substantial discount to the spot (which closed at 1,736.25).
The gap between the Nifty December futures and the spot widened towards the latter part of the trading session. Volumes were higher at Rs 11,500 crore amid volatile trading.
The most active futures contracts were the Nifty, Reliance Industries, Satyam, Tata Steel, Ranbaxy and Tata Motors.
