A rally in small and mid-sized companies witnessed one out of six traded stocks frozen at the upper circuit on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) in trade on Friday.
Of the 2,951 stocks that are traded on the BSE, as many as 476 were locked in upper circuit levels and there were no sellers on the counter.
Ravalgaon Sugar Farm, Victoria Mills, Loyal Textiles, Themis Medicare, Welcast Steels, Pioneer Distilleries, Saksoft, TPL Plastech, Gini Silk Mills, Orient Beverages and Schrader Duncan were among few notable stocks frozen at maximum upper limit of circuit filter.
The S&P BSE Smallcap and S&P BSE Midcap indices were closed 1% higher as compared to 0.17% gain in S&P BSE Sensex today.
UV Boards was locked in upper circuit of 20% at Rs 23.70, also its 52-week high on the BSE. As many as 413,000 shares changed hands on the counter as compared to an average of 63,000 shares that were traded daily in past two weeks on the BSE. There were pending buy orders for 192,994 shares at end of the day.
The market price of the company engaged in forest products business appreciated by more than 100% in past two months. On October 27, 2015, Ramesh S Damani Finance Private Limited bought 150,000 equity shares of UV Boards at Rs 10.06 per share on the BSE, the bulk deal data shows.
SSPDL too was locked in upper circuit of 20% at Rs 70.10 on the BSE. Shares of the real estate company has become multi-bagger from Rs 31.30 on November 13, after the company reported consolidated net profit of Rs 5.14 crore on net sales of Rs 25.29 crore for the quarter ended September 2015. The Telangana-based company had posted a net loss of Rs 4.51 crore in the year ago quarter.
Cords Cable Industries was frozen at Rs 62.70, up 10% ahead of board meeting today. The stock zoomed 63% from Rs 38.45 on December 22, after the company announced the board of directors will meet to consider fund raising plans.
