Potato prices fell by Rs 4.70, or 1.29 per cent, to Rs 358.70 per quintal today, as speculators offloaded their positions, driven by less offtake in the spot market.

At the Multi Commodity exchange, potato for September contract fell by Rs 4.70, or 1.29 per cent, to Rs 358.70 per quintal, with a business volume of 363 lots.

The potato for delivery in October contract eased by Rs 4.70, or 1.28 per cent, to Rs 362.10 per quintal, with a turnover of 409 lots, while August-month contract traded lower by Rs 4.50, or 1.24 per cent, to Rs 357 per quintal, with a trading volume of 164 lots.

Fall in potato prices is due to offloading of positions by speculators, driven by subdued demand in the spot market, traders said.
