Potato prices fell by Rs 23.90 to Rs 771.40 per quintal today as speculators offloaded their positions due to less offtake in the spot market.

Besides, adequate stocks position following increased arrivals from the producing regions weighed on the prices.

At the Multi Commodity exchange, the October contract for potato fell by Rs 23.90, or 3%, to Rs 771.40 per quintal, with a trade volume of two lots.

The March contract also declined by Rs 4.50, or 0.61%, to Rs 725 per quintal, with a business turnover of five lots.

Continued fall in potato prices was due to offloading of positions by speculators due to subdued demand in the spot market, traders said.
