Potato extends gains on surge in demand

Prices up over 1.3% from previous close

Potato prices gained Rs 15.90 to Rs 1,196 per quintal in futures trade today as traders created fresh positions on firm spot demand.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for July delivery rose by Rs 15.90, or 1.34%, to Rs 1,196 per quintal, with a trading volume of 10 lots.

The delivery for August also traded higher by Rs 13.40, or 1.03%, to Rs 1,313 per quintal, with a business volume of 153 lots.

Marketmen said the rise in potato prices at futures trade was mainly due to the rising spot demand.
