Potato futures prices fell by Rs 2.90 to Rs 458.60 per quintal in futures trade today, as speculators offloaded their positions, driven by reduced offtake in the spot market.
At the Multi Commodity exchange, potato for September month contract fell by Rs 2.90 or 0.63 per cent, to Rs 458.60 per quintal, with a business volume of 276 lots.
The potato for delivery in August contract eased by Rs 2.90 or 0.57 per cent, to Rs 457.20 per quintal, with a turnover of 161 lots, while July-month contract also traded lower by Rs 1.50 or 0.33 per cent, to Rs 453.20 per quintal, with a trading volume of 48 lots.
Continuous fall in potato prices was mostly due to offloading of positions by speculators, driven by subdued demand in the spot market, traders said.
