Potato prices surged by Rs 16.90 to Rs 733.50 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators enlarged their positions on a rising trend in the local market.
Restricted arrivals from the producing region also supported the uptrend.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for April contract surged by Rs 16.90, or 2.36 per cent to Rs 733.50 per quintal, with a business volume of a single lot.
Likewise, the potato for delivery in March contract shot up by Rs 15.90, or 2.18 per cent, to Rs 745.50 per quintal, with a business turnover of one lot.
Market analysts said increased buying by speculators on rising demand in the spot market supported by ongoing marriage season mainly pushed up potato futures prices.
