Potato futures rise on pick up in demand

Potato prices gained Rs 3.20 or 0.65 per cent to Rs 496 per quintal in futures trade today, as traders created fresh positions on pick up in demand. Restricted arrivals from producing regions also influenced the trading sentiment.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for July-month contract gained Rs 3.20, or 0.65 per cent to Rs 496 per quintal, with an open interest of 1,501 lots.

Similarly, the potato for delivery in June contract also traded higher by rupee one, or 0.20 per cent to Rs 493.60 per quintal, with a business volume of 1,352 lots.

Marketmen said pick up in demand in spot markets amid restricted arrivals from Simla and Haldwani, a major producing regions, pushed up potato prices at futures trade.
