Potato futures prices surged by Rs 14.40 to Rs 683 per quintal today on rising demand in the spot market, following the ongoing marriage season.
Less arrivals from the producing region also supported the uptrend.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for April contract surged by Rs 14.40, or 2.15%, to Rs 683 per quintal, with a trade volume of just one lot.
Similarly, the potato for delivery in May rose by Rs 12.40, or 1.81%, to Rs 696.90 per quintal, with a business turnover of three lots, while current month March's contract gained Rs 2.50, or 0.35%, to Rs 717.50 per quintal, with a business volume of four lots.
Market analysts said speculators rising demand in the spot market due to ongoing marriage season, which mainly led the upsurge in potato futures prices.
