Buoyed by the rising seasonal demand, potato prices rose by Rs 17,40 to Rs 689.80 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators enlarged their positions, supported by rising seasonal demand in the spot market.
Restricted arrivals in the physical market also influenced the trading sentiment.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for April rose by Rs 17.40, or 2.59 per cent to Rs 689.80 per quintal, with a business turnover of two lots.
Similarly, the potato for delivery in May contract shot up by Rs 13, or 1.84 per cent, to Rs 720 per quintal, with a business volume of single lot.
Market analysts said positions created by speculators following rising seasonal demand in the spot market led to the rise in potato futures prices.
